Rev. Sherrie James offers educational and factual presentations to churches, to church conferences, to youth rallies, to clergy conferences, and to social gatherings or media panels about the topics of the paranormal in modernity as well as the complex ethical questions and changing spiritual, social, and scientific norms facing our global society. Her honest and educational talks are not done in some sensational, scary, biased, or judgmental way but instead attempt to create an intelligent, informative, open, and honest dialogue about these often controversial and very relevant topics.
_____________________________________________
As an additional aspect of her general pastoral calling, Rev. Sherrie James often attempts to stand in the gap and to act as a bridge and a resource when needed between the scientific, the paranormal, and traditional Christian communities. Though Rev. Sherrie James is very faithful to her traditional Christian roots, she also is capable of understanding and discussing intelligently the complex moral, ethical and metaphysical relationship between Christianity, modern society, science, and the paranormal.
Rev. Sherrie James educates about the emerging sciences, scientific experiments, and scientific challenges that are taking place in modernity that potentially impact religion, spirituality, and ethics. Churches and denominations often have been reluctant to discuss these often controversial, diverse, and challenging subjects. That often means that the Church's knowledge of the ethical and moral considerations about emerging technologies or even about the paranormal in modernity often either is nonexistent or it is being willfully ignored.
That must change!
When it comes to the paranormal, the emerging technologies in modernity, remote viewing, artificial intelligence, super soldiers, psychic abilities, space travel, life on other planets, social slavery, or other controversial topics, such as the downloading of human consciousness, ignorance is no longer bliss!
Rev. Sherrie desires to attempt to empower churches, denominations, and Christians to begin having intelligent dialogues about these topics so that the Church is not left playing catch-up once again or is seen as being irrelevant in modernity.
So Rev. Sherrie offers intelligent and interesting presentations that give an educational overview of the current and traditional understandings of the paranormal as well as of the emerging scientific trends and controversies in today's world. This includes teaching churches and religious leaders about how to show compassion to those who have made spiritual mistakes in ethical choices or in occult interactions. She educates about possible ways to assist when someone is in need or crisis. She explains current and traditional paranormal terminology as well as discusses real scientific innovations that often sound like science fiction. She encourages non-fear based discussions about the paranormal as well as about the emerging ethical questions being created by new technologies. Rev. Sherrie does not attempt to convince anyone of what he or she should believe about the these subjective topics but provides factual information and Scripture that are relevant for today's Church and global society.
When someone is experiencing paranormal issues or have moral, spiritual, and ethical questions, the first place they often turn to for help is the church. For instance, if intelligent life was to be confirmed on other planets or if one's memories could be transferred into computers, many people would want to know the Church's stance on such topics. And if the Church is unwilling to provide answers or unable through a lack of knowledge or compassion to offer society any help or guidance, people naturally will turn to anyone that offers them relevant answers or that causes them to feel emotionally and spiritually safe, including the pagan community.
Simply saying to people, "You shouldn't mess with that stuff" or "God is in charge and will take care of everything" typically is no longer enough. Such responses particularly are unhelpful after some controversial technology is in play or after a moral mistake have been made, even if such responses still may be wise advice or true. So in reality, it is past time to begin to have a real discussion about what Christianity's response will be to these new and subjective moral and ethical questions that are emerging almost daily.
When people come to the churches and ask about subjective scientific topics, the Church should not come across as ignorant, outdated, or without an opinion. Instead, the church should be coming from a place of empowerment and knowledge, even if that knowledge might be uncomfortable for many and even if we yet do not have all of the answers. The only way for the Church to have a place at the table when it comes to the changing ethical and moral considerations in our world is to begin to discuss these topics openly and to learn the reality about these emerging scientific breakthroughs and sometimes controversial experiments.
For instance, clergy typically are not taught Paranormal 101 in seminary. Yet the clergy are often the first ones who are sought out when someone feels they are being haunted or when someone knows that he or she needs to confess that they have messed with the occult and now are frightened and need help. Rev. Sherrie's presentations for clergy teach fellow pastors ways to ask intelligent questions about anything paranormal while also coming from a place of current knowledge about the topic and Scriptural empowerment. Her talks geared toward clergy enable ministers to know the right questions to ask and how to discuss this often controversial topic with compassion and wisdom when someone comes to them seeking help with a perceived paranormal issue.
Rev. Sherrie can explain the differences between a house blessing, a house cleansing, and a location exorcism and when and how to conduct each. She will teach clergy how to consecrate Anointing Oil or Holy Water and their uses. (She touches on the topic in terms of how to self-protect but will not teach clergy how to do human exorcisms during presentations because she considers that to be a calling and requires much more training than can be accomplished in a day.) Most importantly, Rev. Sherrie simply debunks the myths about the paranormal in modernity and gives clergy the tools -- including the Scripture references -- to feel both knowledgeable and empowered when someone needs to talk to him or her about what supposedly goes bump in the night.
Children, tweens and teenagers too are exposed to paranormal television and other media programming weekly and often daily about the occult. They see witches, wizards and magick ("magic" typically is done on stage by entertainment magicians for fun and "magick" is more of a technical term for what is done by witches and wizards) on a regular basis. Our youth are taught by society to accept, validate and not to judge those of other faiths and belief systems, including witches and even Satanists. So they naturally are curious. Attempting to cast a spell or playing with a Ouji Board can seem like fun and innocuous to them because they often have become desensitized to any spiritual danger. At other times, they can become fascinated by paranormal television shows, which often teach potentially dangerous or inappropriate paranormal investigation techniques. Sometimes, such shows and media offerings often can be harmless but they also can pose a spiritual danger through misinformation or even indoctrination to the unwary, to the naïve, or to those who have not been taught the potential dangers of messing with the unknown. But it is not just the paranormal that our youth need to be allowed to discuss and to learn about in safety.
In an educational and open dialogue, Rev. Sherrie talks to youth about the paranormal in terms of what they typically see on television and their faith. She talks about the paranormal shows and the differences and overlaps of conducting scientific paranormal research verses messing with the occult. She intelligently and without bias discusses the potential positives and negatives of science, including Artificial Intelligence, being chipped, a global world economy, the downloading of human consciousness at death, and even soul slavery. In an honest dialogue, the positives, negatives, and potential spiritual dangers associated with paranormal investigating, occult practices, unethical scientific practices, and the potential scenarios facing modernity from global biological warfare to modern forms of slavery are shared. Rev. Sherrie presents her understanding about what is real and what is not real from a Christian perspective and from a Scriptural understanding -- including Jesus' own words about ghosts and the ethical treatment of others -- as well as from reality-based and verifiable science.
Children, tweens and teenagers are so tech savvy today. While older adults may see controversial issues with privacy, the younger demographic often see such invasions not only as normal but as acceptable. Thus, sharing both the pros and cons about technological ethics, responsibilities, and boundaries has become so important. Teaching that technology can be both a blessing and a curse needs to be shared in a way that does not make the Church seem antiquated and negatively biased against science. After all, God created new things and wisely following in our Creator's footsteps is not a bad thing but unchecked and uncontrolled technology can be detrimental to our world, to our global society, and even specifically to Christianity.

Standing in the gap...
Believing that we all, regardless of our ages and personal spiritual beliefs, deserve honest answers and the opportunity to openly discuss our questions about science or about the paranormal in modernity, Rev. Sherrie is open to answering whatever questions that may be asked.
As a gentle and nonjudgmental witness of Christ's love to both the global scientific and paranormal communities, Rev. Sherrie recognizes that many involved in either or in society in general often have been hurt or disillusioned by organized religion and yet remain very spiritual individuals. She also knows that sometimes Christians involved in the paranormal -- either by intention or by default as innocent victims, as paranormal investigators, or as witnesses that have involuntarily experienced paranormal events -- are often reluctant to speak with their own pastors and/or church members about this topic for fear of being ridiculed or being ostracized. Equally, those in the scientific communities often fail to realize that modern Christians are children of both religion and science by default due to the time in which we live. So someone needs to attempt to bring the Church and people of faith into the tough conversation about what currently is happening in our world and about how we can improve our relevance for those who are not a part of our religious belief system as well as to help those in science to realize that Christianity is not the enemy.
Rev. Sherrie is making that attempt and encouraging other Christians to do the same!

Assisting other clergy...
Recognizing how challenging it can be for pastors to discuss their own questions about the paranormal or subjective science in safety and to get accurate information about this often controversial topic, Rev. Sherrie provides educational seminars and free confidential consultations to other clergy. She discusses how to best answer religious and paranormal questions posed by parishioners and others seeking help based on current scientific understandings as well as from sound biblical teachings about the paranormal. She may help answer their questions about the following: controversial emerging sciences; the paranormal and Christianity in today's world; what questions to ask and how to answer from a nonjudgmental and yet biblical perspective when someone comes to the pastor for help about a paranormal or scientific ethical issue; practical ways to help or to deal directly with possible hauntings; and about discernment, cleansings, deliverance ministry, and exorcisms.
